Storm Update: The storm remains an active system and outages are scattered across the province. Crews are working as safely and efficiently as possible to respond to emergencies and restore power. We will update estimated times of restoration (ETRs) as more information becomes available and encourage customers to keep checking the website for updated information. Please report any new outages at www.nbpower.com/reportoutage.

Thermal

Oil, gas, and coal are also used to make electricity in New Brunswick. Thermal generating stations, such as Belledune and Coleson Cove use one or more of these fuel sources. Our thermal stations have some of the most advanced environmental protection equipment in North America. View our system map for an overview of the stations and the environmental protections in place.

All thermal stations work basically the same way: the fuel source is burned to produce heat, which is then used to turn water into steam. The steam is directed to a turbine with blades. When the blades turn, the generator is then able to make electricity.

Check out this video we made with our education partner, The Gaia Project, to see more on how our Belledune thermal station works.
