Electrical Accidents

If you or someone around you comes into contact with an energized electrical source, remember these rules to keep you and others safe

  • Tips

Contact NB Power at 1 800 663-6272 to help and disconnect the power.

  • Electrical Accidents

Keep everyone away from the equipment, its load, or from fallen wires.

  • Rescue can only be attempted by a person trained to use special live-line tools. In cases involving high voltage lines, even using a wooden tool, a dry rope, hose, wood pole, or board to move a victim from the wire is dangerous. Never touch the equipment or the victim until the area is declared safe by a qualified person.
  • Rubber boots and gloves

Rubber boots and gloves are not made to insulate you against the tremendous amount of power flowing through a typical distribution line. They will catch fire if exposed to electricity.

  • Tires may explode

Tires may explode or begin to burn immediately upon the vehicle coming in contact with a power line.

  • Rubber tires will actually conduct electricity. Carbon-based rubber, steel belts and reinforcements make some tires very good conductors.
